Frequently Asked Questions

What if I want to cancel/change events I bought?

Cancellations for events must be at least 48 hours in advance and cancellations for full-room bookings must be at least 24 hours in advance to receive a refund. If you would like to cancel or change any booking, please email reservations@regalcatcafe.com and we can help you.

Do you have parking?

We do not have our own designated parking but there are parkades and street parking nearby - be sure to read parking signs carefully, as you will get towed on 10th Street at certain times of the day. Kensington can be busy so plan to arrive early to find parking!

Can I bring my cat?

While we are sure your cat is awesome, we ask you to leave him/her at home. All of our cats arrive with a clean bill of health and are socialized to the environment for the comfort of both the kitties and our guests.

What should I wear when I go to the Kitty Kingdom?

There are no restrictions on attire. However, please bring your socks as you will be required to remove your shoes. Long pants are recommended to lower the chance of scratches.

Why are the cats separate from the cafe?

We have worked closely with Alberta Health and Safety to design a space that is safe and healthy for our guests. This is why we have a completely separate area called the Kitty Kingdom for our cats to relax and play. We also have special doors for intake and adoptions so no kitty will go through our cafe at any point. We strive to have the cleanest and healthiest cafe for our guests (and ensure that all food and drink is free from kitty hair!).

What if I'm allergic to cats?

Not a problem! We have a full-service café with lots of comfortable seating and a great view of the Kitty Kingdom. The two areas have separate ventilation for your comfort. No kitties are ever transferred through the cafe, so you should not have allergy issues in our cafe.

Why is there a fee to visit the kitties?

An admission fee helps us continue to find more homes for rescued cats. Our primary goal is to provide a unique environment to visit with some friendly cats or fall in love with your next family member and we try hard to balance cost and the quality of experience.

We are owned by the MEOW Foundation, so feel good about your purchase knowing that it goes towards cats in need!

I’m a support worker, do I pay to go into the Kitty Kingdom with my client?

No, care/support workers get in for free! However, the client is still required to pay the admission fee. We just ask that all care/support workers show some form of identification as proof that you are a care/support worker!

When is the “best” time to visit the cats?

If you’d like to visit the kitties when they are most active, we recommend booking a reservation in the morning (starting at 9:30am) or in the evening (after 5:30pm). This is when cats are naturally generally awake. However, they are live animals with their own autonomy so we can’t make any guarantees!

If you’d like to visit the kitties when we are less busy, we recommend weekdays during the day. As a fun, family-friendly place, we are typically busiest whenever kids are out of school (weekends, holidays, and school breaks).

What type of cats are at the café?

Any cat that joins us at the café is spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and in good health. MEOW Foundation performs behavioral analysis on each cat to ensure he/she will thrive in a social environment.

Most cats selected are above 5 months old and are already accustomed to socializing with other cats and humans.

How do I adopt one of the resident kitties?

Visit our Meet our Cats page for more information on the adoption process.

Can I donate items?

Yes! We accept all types of donations that will then be transported to the MEOW Foundation.

We can accept small items including food, treats, or litter (partially used bags are OK), toys or beds, or used fleece blankets in excellent condition. More information on MEOW Foundation’s current needs can be found here.

Cash donations are accepted for MEOW Foundation through our donation box, but should a tax receipt be required we recommend donating directly through MEOW Foundation’s website.

Is the Cafe and Kitty Kingdom wheelchair accessible?

Yes! We are fully wheelchair accessible in our Cafe and Kitty Kingdom.

Can I surrender my cat to Regal Cat Cafe?

Unfortunately, we are not able to take in rescue cats here at Regal Cat Cafe. We recommend reaching out to local Calgary rescues if you need to surrender your cat.

Do you host Birthday Parties?

We would love to help you celebrate your special day! If you would like to book the full room and bring up to 16 guests, please visit our Reservations page and choose a full-room option. You can find detailed information on our Exclusive Group Packages page!

We also have delicious cupcakes that are PURRfect for a party and can special order some for your group with one week’s notice. We kindly ask that guests do not bring in outside food or drinks. Birthday parties with young guests should have 1 adult present for every 3-4 children in the Kitty Kingdom.

Please note that we are unable to guarantee a table in the café unless you are booking the entire space, but often tables become available once the next group of guests goes into the Kitty Kingdom.
